A DAY IN THE LIFE

Poached eggs and smoked salmon are your fuel of choice for today as you energize for the days adventures ahead. You chat and laugh with your fellow guests as the glistening fjords outside the window catch your eye. Your guide informs you that the snow is stable and plentiful, and the visibility will be 100% – game on. Time to meet the group outside the lodge and walk down to the beach, where your boat is waiting to whisk you through the fjord to your destination, the remote island of Arnøya. You jump off the front of the boat onto the beach into your ski boots and help offload the gear, ready for your first tour of the day.

10 minutes later,  off the beach and onto the snow, heart beating and breathing the crisp mountain air deep into your lungs, you feel at one with your stunning surroundings. An hour later, you hit a crest and see the summit of the island, your first objective of the day. Another hour of climbing later, you are at the summit enjoying 360 degree, uninterrupted views of this truly unique and beautiful landscape. Skins off, skis on, time to choose your fresh line, all the way back to the sea – where else on earth is this even possible?

Time for a lunch stop with fresh baked bread, local cheeses and delicacies and hot brewed coffee, the perfect combination to warm up, refuel and get ready for a few more runs. You finish eating and take a few photos of your beachside, mountain paradise lunch spot – your friends are going  to hate you! Skins back on and 3 more shorter runs into the sunset to finish the afternoon before your legs have had enough action for the day – 20 cm of fresh powder on the mellower shoulders of the island, the perfect way to top off the morning’s big mountain bowl skiing. You land on the beach at the base and pack up your gear ready for the boat pick-up. Time for another quick coffee whilst you watch the boat roll in over the horizon, a bright orange hue surrounds you  as the alpenglow blasts the surrounding peaks. Time to relax and finish the day off, Norwegian style!

You are greeted by your friendly lodge host with a smile, as you fill them in on the days turns and triumphs. You spot the sumptuous afternoon tea set up in the living room and smile as you unwind and officially hit the relax button. You book in a massage, to soothe those sore muscles – you deserve it after all! Your massage therapist works out all of those knots and sore spots and recommends taking in a hot tub to top it off – not a bad idea, you think. As you melt into the hot tub, you see flashes of green amongst the spectacular star filled sky – the aurora borealis or “Northern Lights” putting on a show- can this place get any more spectacular?

Time for a quick shower and down to join the gang for dinner – your chef explains that they have been out foraging for local mushrooms and berries, and picking up fresh reindeer meat for tonight’s meal. You sit down for a  sumptuous 3 course dinner, painstakingly sourced and created from only the finest local ingredients. Life is good – time to lay your head down on your plump down pillows and rest up before tomorrow’s ski adventure to the Lyngen peninsula. Good night!
